Book Basket

Thank you to all those who donated children's books for the SCBWI Book Basket!

Our 2011 book basket was presented to Michael Rush, Director of Options for Families and Youth—a premier, non-profit, private child welfare agency serving children and their families in the Cleveland area. Licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services since 1989, Options serves youth in foster & adoption families, in the Help Me Grow program visiting vulnerable parents with young children, and in offering behavioral health services such as assessment and art therapies to heal early traumas. To learn more about this wonderful area agency, please go to their web site, www.ofycares.org.

Books are a wonderful interactive resource in strengthening children (from birth to age 21) and their parents. Michael Rush said the donated books will support the emotional bond in families and promote literacy. He added, “A child entering school with a 5000 word vocabulary has a major advantage over a child with a 500 word vocabulary. We are so pleased to be this year’s recipient of SCBWI’s books for children. We will see that they are well-used and read."

If you would like to nominate a School or organization for the 2012 book basket donation, please contact Victoria Selvaggio at vselvaggio@windstream.net
