How to Prepare Your Work for Critique
Manuscripts for Critique:
- The registration form will specify that
you submit two copies of the selection you are submitting
for critique.
- You may submit up to ten (10) pages, double-spaced
with one-inch margins in 12 point type, and a one-page synopsis
for critique. Please use paper clips or staples only to
secure your manuscript pages; no binders, covers, rubber bands,
or special enclosures.
- Format your work as you would a standard
submission, including a front page with your name, address, phone,
e-mail, title and approximate word count. For more information
on formatting submissions, please see 'From Keyboard to Printed
Page' under SCBWI Publications at
www.scbwi.org/pubs.htm.
- It is recommended that you bring a copy
of the selection you submitted for critique with you the day of
the conference.

Portfolios for Review:
- Please do not send your work,
or copies of your work, with your registration form. Do bring
your portfolio, which meets the following guidelines, on the day
of the conference.
- Do
submit photocopies and color photocopies of good quality; please
do not submit originals, slides or transparencies.
- Do mount your artwork on pages
in an appropriate presentation case; please do not submit loose
artwork. Please restrict oversized or wooden case presentations.
- Do keep your portfolio within
appropriate size limits ranging from 8.5x11 inches to 20x30 inches.
Appropriately assembled picture book dummy illustrations are acceptable.
- Do have your name and address
firmly mounted on or in your portfolio.
- A maximum of fifteen to eighteen pages
(front and back) is an acceptable length for a portfolio submitted
for review.
- Do include your resume/bio/profile
on the first page of your portfolio, including your name, address,
phone number, and e-mail address.
- Do include a "drop off"
item in your portfolio such as a postcard or business card with
your contact information for your critiquer to take along for
future reference.
