Monthly Meetings
Third Saturday of every month
Our monthly events include a
quarterly discussion of a current writing topic moderated by one of our
members, followed by a general discussion of writing and/or
illustrating topics, current projects and writing problems and
concerns. Come mentor each other!
Other months we offer

Fairlawn, Independence, and Cleveland.

Feb. 18 Speaker/Workshop Event
Kathiann M. Kowalski will present “NOT ‘Just the Facts,
Ma’am’:
Writing and Marketing Nonfiction for Today’s Youth.” The
workshop will address
a range of issues relating to nonfiction writing, such as: finding a
fresh
slant; conducting research and expert interviews; making complex
material
accessible to children; pitching stories; working with editors; and

24 Speaker/Workshop Event
Christopher Canyon presents "The Artistry of Picture
Books." Christopher will present varying approaches, styles, and media
he has explored in designing and illustrating picture books. He will be
sharing many visual examples in a slideshow presentation and
will also be sharing his own personal professional experience of
nearly 20 years as a children's book illustrator--as well as his
current creative and professional directions within the field of

Tricia
Springstubb
Award Winning YA Author
Tricia Springstubb began her career
over thirty years ago, writing for children's magazines. By now
she's published sixteen books, from picture books to YA
novels. Her most recent work is for middle grade: WHAT HAPPENED ON
FOX STREET, (Heather Ross, Illustrator)
set in Cleveland, received numerous starred reviews, and was named to
the best books of 2010 lists by Kirkus, The Washington Post, and
Bank Street School. The sequel, MO WREN LOST AND FOUND, comes out this
August. HarperCollins is the publisher. Candlewick
will publish her picture book, PHOEBE AND DIGGER, in
2013. Tricia's at work on another MG novel and has a YA in the
back of her mind...
The mother of three grown daughters, Tricia lives with her husband
in Cleveland Heights. She also writes for adults, and you can read an interview on what it's
